American Idol Songwriting Contest is now a go!

By Don • Apr 4th, 2007 • Category: Songwriting Contests

Although they won’t be doing a televised songwriting competition, the producers of the show do want your songs. You have until April 17th to upload your song to http://songwriter.americanidol.com.

At least that is according to today’s edition of USA Today.

19 Entertainment’s US head, Iain Pirie says, “It could be anyone. It could be someone sitting on their porch in Tennessee, or they could be playing in a bar band in Seattle,” he says. “You can literally imagine a 50-year-old mom sitting in her living room with a portable keyboard, coming up with a great song.”

The article also gives a glimpse into the terms of the deal:

Once a winner is picked, a record producer will arrange and produce the song for the Idol finalists, possibly consulting with the songwriter, who will get a one-song, standard deal with 19 Entertainment.

Will the Songwriter Get Screwed Over?

It doesn’t seem so. Joe Taylor reviews the fine print and legalese of the American Idol Songwriting Competition contract.

  1. Hello everyone I must say at this moment I am obsolutely feeling so down. I feel as if I have been hit by a truck its that bad. The reason is simple, as I am not a citizen of the USA or a permanent resident of the USA I am unable to enter my song in this years American Idol Song contest. I am gutted, devastated in fact I live in Ireland and was so looking forward to the contest. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts joseph.mcnally2@ntlworld.com thanks everyone and good luck to everyone who is entering. joe

  2. Is it too late to submit a CD in the songwriting contest. I do have a winner here, and a lot more after that! If it is too late for this contest, will they have it again? Or, if I sent it to Simon Cowell, would he listen to it? I would appreciate some input if anyone would care to respond.

    Wes
