4/4/2007 UPDATE:
The competition is on! Check here for details. We have been watching the news from the American Idol camp regarding the possibilities of an open songwriting competition. We’ve talked about it extensively here, here and here.
According to Hollywood Today and TV Week Magazine the contest has been shelved, for this season at least.
It was interesting to note that Hollywood Today is apparently a Blogging Muses reader, because they paraphrased our article, where they noted:
“Warwick did not rule out reviving the songwriting contest notion in the future. However, several blogs were dubious it would come back, and one said that it was likely only songwriters already signed with the producers and their partners at Sony/BMG Records would be allowed to enter.”
Also, TV Week Magazine has a podcast online where they talk about the shelving of the Songwriting Contest in-depth.
My feeling is next season is when they will fully utilize American Idol Underground. It will be an exciting time when they do.
(PS: Hollywood Today … some link love would be nice.)
