Singer-Songwriter Joseph Arthur on David Letterman
By Don • Oct 11th, 2006 • Category: Live Music
Just finished watching Joseph Arthur perform “Slide Away” on Letterman (video link) and I have to say the guy is sounding better than ever.
For those of you familiar with him, it looks like he is definitely making an attempt at larger mainstream exposure. Instead of the brooding, mysterious Joseph Arthur we see a new dude. His stage presence is animated. He looks like he is having fun. He dresses cool. I loved the blue suit and contrasting green shirt. No more hiding behind big sunglasses. (Okay, enough of my Joan Rivers fashion review.)
Anyways, on the music front …
What I like about Joseph Arthur is his simple chord progressions which allow him to create his beautiful melodies. It’s not the prettiest or most crystal vocals, but they are better than average and his emotional connect more than makes up for it without sounding cheesy.
Plus, in light of the whole North Korea scenario, you’ve gotta love an album title like Nuclear Daydream.
