Group Project: Songwriting Tips

Who’s up for a group songwriting project?
Some readers have emailed me songwriting tips, but don’t really want to contribute a whole article to Blogging Muses. So, more than one reader has suggested putting together a repository of songwriting tips from the Blogging Muses readers.
Great idea! So I spent last night putting together a little form and some pages to display a community collection of songwriting tips.
I wanted to also provide a thank you for tips contributed by readers, so I have come up with a solution that should benefit everyone - details are below:
Do you have songwriting tips?
You can submit a tip using the form located here. I have a few wonderful ones people have sent to me personally that I will add to the project. I’ll add some of my own as well. I also made a way for everyone to contribute easily, and a way to say “thank you” for your tips.
Here’s a few ideas for songwriting tips to get you thinking:
- What do you do to break out of “writer’s block”?
- How do you keep your original songs from all sounding the same?
- How do you keep track of song ideas?
- What are some things you look for when you rewrite your songs?
- Where do you look for songwriting ideas? Inspiration?
- How do you come up with melodies?
- Are there any songwriting exercises you like?
Here is what happens once your tip is submitted:
- Your tip will be highlighted on it’s very own page.
- If you have a website/MySpace/CDBaby page or whatever, we will link to it. (only if you want us to) For those of of you with some techie knowledge, you are probably aware this is gold for your search engine ranking! This is a way of thanking the wonderful songwriters and readers of Blogging Muses. (Example: If you submit 5 songwriting tips, you could have up to 10 links to your CD/project/site!)
- Your name will be associated with the tip. Another thank you. (Again, only if you want us to)
How to submit a songwriting tip to Blogging Muses.
Go to this form and write your tip out. Give us any optional information you choose to share with the songwriting community and anything you would like promoted (new CDs, books, website, concert tour, etc).
Give us about 48 hours to get your tip approved and online. Don’t worry - “approval” isn’t as big a deal as it sounds. We just proof it for grammatical and spelling purposes, and then format it for the site. No biggie.
I can’t wait to see what tips/suggestions you guys have about songwriting!
By Wednesday (Oct 4th) I will be posting the first round of songwriting tips contributed by Blogging Muses readers.
So, if you like, go ahead and contribute a songwriting tip!
Check out the songwriting tips submitted so far.
